Ferry Pass is the north Pensacola corridor around Davis Highway, and from the yard it is a straight fifteen minute run up 12th or Davis. It covers a lot of ground — the University of West Florida campus at the north end, Pensacola State College, the Cordova Mall retail corridor, and the residential streets in between along Creighton, Olive and Langley.

The housing is largely 1970s through 1990s: brick ranch, split levels, townhouses and a heavy proportion of rentals serving UWF students, university staff and hospital workers. Commercially, the Cordova and Davis Highway corridor keeps us in tenant fit-outs, restaurant turnovers and office refreshes, all of which run on somebody else’s lease dates rather than ours. Scenic Highway along the Escambia Bay bluffs is the eastern edge, and the bluff properties there are their own thing entirely — older, steeper, and with access that needs thinking about. Storm work reaches here too; the water oaks and live oaks along these streets come down in a blow and the limb wood goes as a clean separate load.

The thing that makes Ferry Pass work is timing. Davis Highway is one of the busiest roads in the county and the stretch between I-10 and Cordova is not somewhere a roll-off truck wants to be at five in the afternoon, so we set these deliveries early or mid-morning. Around the university and the college the same applies at the start and end of semester, when every second driveway has a moving van in it. Apartment and townhouse placements need the property manager to sign off in advance — parking lots are laid out for cars, not for a truck with a hoist arm, and we would rather have the spot agreed than argue about a fire lane on the day. Getting a truck to you

Straight north on 12th Avenue or Davis Highway from the yard, or off I-10 at Davis if the truck is coming from the east. Fifteen minutes on a normal morning. Davis Highway at rush hour is the thing that eats a schedule out here, along with move-in and move-out weekends around the university, so we book early windows and hold them. For an apartment or townhouse address we need the property manager’s approval on placement and any gate code before the truck leaves the yard rather than after it arrives.

Permits, streets and placement in Ferry Pass

On a private driveway in Ferry Pass you generally do not need a municipal permit.
