One room or one roof
15 Yard Dumpster Rental in Pensacola, FL
The in-between size that quietly solves most single-scope jobs. One bathroom, one kitchen, one garage, or one roof up to about 20 squares on a single layer. It holds more than a 10 without the length of a 20, which matters on the tight drives around East Hill, Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach.
A 15 yard roll-off is 16 feet long, 8 feet wide and about four feet tall, rated for roughly two to three tons — four to five pickup loads. It is the container for a job with one clear scope: one room, one roof, one garage. If you are trying to decide between this and the 20, the question is not how big the house is. It is how many rooms are actually coming apart.

Why people choose the 15 yard
Roofing is where the 15 earns its reputation, and it is also where sizing goes wrong most often. A roof is measured in squares and layers, not in the square footage of the house. One square is 100 square feet of roof surface, and a single layer of architectural shingle runs somewhere around 250 to 400 pounds per square depending on the product. A 15 covers a straightforward single-layer tear-off up to roughly 20 squares, which is a large share of the homes we serve. The trap is layers. Pensacola has a lot of older stock, and a second or third layer doubles or triples the tonnage off the same roof without changing the outline of the building one bit. Pull a shingle at the rake edge and count before you order. Our roofing tear-off size guide walks through the count, and roofing dumpster rental covers placement close to the drip line so your crew is not carrying bundles across the yard. Pre-1980 roofing felt is a stop-and-test moment — we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container.
Inside the house, a 15 is the honest size for a single-room gut. A bathroom down to the studs, a kitchen with cabinets, counters and appliances out, a laundry, a hall bath plus closets. What tips it over is masonry: tile with a mortar bed, a cast iron tub, an old cement-board substrate or a brick hearth. Old-house debris is denser than modern debris across the board, so on a 1920s bungalow with heart pine flooring stacked in layers and plaster and lath coming off the walls, size down and swap rather than heaping one box you cannot legally lift. Salvage first, too — flooring, beadboard, doors, mantels, transoms, hardware and old brick all have buyers on the Gulf Coast, and pulling salvage before the container arrives is normal trade practice here.
The third steady use is the military move-out. PCS season runs roughly May through August around NAS Pensacola, Corry Station and Whiting Field in Milton, and a 15 is the right box for the garage-and-storage-unit half of it: shelving, workbenches, bikes, patio furniture, mattresses, the accumulated contents of a two-year tour. Our PCS move-out cleanout guide covers the timing, and junk removal is there if you would rather not touch it at all. Keep yard trash out of it — Florida separates vegetative debris from solid waste, so limbs and brush ride as a separate clean load through yard waste removal rather than getting mixed in and reclassified at the scale.
Good fit for
- Single-layer shingle tear-off up to about 20 squares
- Full bathroom gut down to the studs
- Kitchen remodel with cabinets and counters out
- Garage or carport clear-out on a PCS move
- Storage unit and rental turnover clear-outs
- Small deck, fence and screen enclosure removal
- Flooring pull-up across two or three rooms
- Interior demo on one addition or bonus room
Not the right size for
- Multi-layer tear-offs on older roofs
- Whole-house cleanouts and full estate work
- Concrete, brick, tile and other dense material
- New construction and commercial fit-out volume
Will it fit?
Sixteen feet of box still wants about 60 feet of straight approach, 10 and a half feet of width and 20 feet or more of overhead for the hoist arm. Live oak limbs are the usual overhead problem, so look up before you commit to a spot — a limb that clears a parked car does not clear a raised hoist. On a roof job we set the container along the tear-off side so material lands in the box instead of the flower beds. Protection boards are standard on every set, and they matter on sandy, shell and paver drives in Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key. Keep the load below the rails so it can be tarped — a heaped open box picks up serious rain weight in a Gulf Coast downpour, and that weight is yours. On rural Santa Rosa and north Escambia lots, flag the septic tank, drain field and well head before delivery day.
Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

What size roof will a 15 yard dumpster handle?
Roughly 20 squares of single-layer architectural shingle, which covers a large share of Pensacola homes. Size by squares and layers, not by the footprint of the house. A second or third layer on older stock can double or triple the tonnage without changing the roof outline, so pull a shingle at the rake edge and count before you order. If it comes back multi-layer, we will step you up a size rather than leave you with a box the truck cannot lift.
Is a 15 yard big enough for a kitchen or bathroom remodel?
For a single room, yes, and it is the size we send most often. Cabinets, counters, fixtures, drywall and flooring from one bathroom or one kitchen fit comfortably. The variable is masonry: a mortar-bed tile floor, a cast iron tub or an old cement-board substrate adds tonnage fast. If two or more rooms are coming apart at once, or the house is old enough for plaster and lath, step up to the 20 or plan on a swap partway through.
Can I use a 15 yard for a military PCS move-out?
That is one of its best uses. Between May and August we run a steady rotation of move-out clear-outs around NAS Pensacola, Corry Station and Whiting Field, and a 15 handles the garage, the storage unit and the rental turnover without taking the whole driveway. If the house itself is being emptied rather than just the garage, look at the 20 instead. Same-week and next-day delivery is normal in that season if you call early.
Can yard debris go in with the remodel debris?
No. Florida separates yard trash from solid waste, so limbs, brush, palm and grass ride as a separate clean load to a yard-waste or mulching facility. Mixing vegetative debris into a construction load gets it reclassified at the scale, which helps nobody. If a job produces both, we will stage two containers or run the vegetative material on its own haul. Disposal rules do change — confirm current requirements with Escambia County when it matters.
How much does a 15 yard dumpster hold compared to a pickup?
About four to five full-size pickup beds loaded level. That is a fair guide for bulky household and remodel debris and a poor one for anything dense. Shingles, tile, plaster and old heart pine all reach the weight limit well before the box looks full, so use the volume comparison for the light stuff and the tonnage allowance for the rest. Describe the pile when you call and we will match the container to it.
